Article #10 — How to Stand Firm in Your Faith in Difficult Times
Content
Following Christ does not mean that life will always be easy.
Jesus warned His disciples that they would face trouble, opposition, temptation, and persecution. Yet Scripture repeatedly calls believers to remain faithful and stand firm.
The question is not whether difficult times will come.
The question is: How will we stand when they do?
Stand Firm in the Word of God
The foundation of a believer's faith must be God's Word.
Jesus said:
“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
— Matthew 4:4 (KJV)
When circumstances change, God's Word remains.
When emotions change, God's Word remains.
When the world changes, God's Word remains.
That is why Christians must know Scripture and build their lives upon it.
Put on the Whole Armor of God
The Bible describes spiritual warfare in Ephesians 6.
Paul writes:
“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
— Ephesians 6:11 (KJV)
The passage identifies the armor as:
-
The belt of truth
-
The breastplate of righteousness
-
The preparation of the gospel of peace
-
The shield of faith
-
The helmet of salvation
-
The sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God
This imagery teaches that believers are not called to face spiritual battles unprepared.
Stand When You Cannot See the Outcome
Faith does not require knowing exactly how everything will turn out.
Hebrews 11:1 says:
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
There may be moments when circumstances appear confusing or overwhelming.
But faith means continuing to trust God even when the outcome is not yet visible.
Do Not Be Overcome by Fear
Fear can become powerful during difficult circumstances.
But Scripture repeatedly tells God's people not to live under the control of fear.
Paul wrote:
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
— 2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)
This does not mean believers will never experience fear.
It means fear does not have to determine how they respond.
Keep Your Eyes on Christ
Hebrews gives believers a powerful instruction:
“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.”
— Hebrews 12:2 (KJV)
When life becomes difficult, it is easy to focus entirely on the problem.
Scripture directs our attention back to Christ.
He is the source and finisher of our faith.
Do Not Give Up
Paul encouraged the Galatians:
“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
— Galatians 6:9 (KJV)
Standing firm does not mean that you will never become tired.
It means you refuse to abandon your faith simply because the road becomes difficult.
There will be seasons when perseverance is required.
Remain Rooted
Colossians 2:6–7 says:
“As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith.”
A tree with deep roots can withstand conditions that would destroy something without a foundation.
The same principle applies spiritually.
If your faith is rooted in Christ and grounded in God's Word, difficult circumstances do not have to determine where you stand.
Keep Looking Toward the Promise
The Christian life is not ultimately about avoiding every difficulty.
It is about remaining faithful to Christ through whatever comes.
Jesus said:
“Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.”
— Revelation 2:10 (KJV)
So when difficult times come:
Stand in the Word.
Stand in faith.
Stand in truth.
Stand in Christ.
And remember the message of Christ Above:
Until the King speaks again... remain rooted in His Word.
Christ Above. All Things. Always.
