The Shadow King: Christ as King, Lord, and Ruler

Article #9 — The Shadow King: Christ as King, Lord, and Ruler

Content

The Bible presents Jesus Christ as more than a teacher, prophet, or historical figure.

He is King.

He is Lord.

He is the Son of God.

And Scripture declares that His authority extends over all things.

The message of The Shadow King is built around this truth: even when Christ is not physically visible to us, His authority has not disappeared. He remains King.

Christ Is King

When Jesus was born, His kingship was announced.

The angel told Mary:

“He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David.”
— Luke 1:32 (KJV)

Jesus' kingdom was not based on earthly political power.

When questioned by Pontius Pilate, Jesus said:

“My kingdom is not of this world.”
— John 18:36 (KJV)

His kingdom is greater than any earthly kingdom.

Jesus Is Lord

The New Testament repeatedly identifies Jesus as Lord.

After His resurrection, Peter proclaimed:

“God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.”
— Acts 2:36 (KJV)

Philippians 2:9–11 declares that God highly exalted Christ and gave Him a name above every name.

The passage concludes:

“And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Christ's lordship is not merely a title.

It represents His authority.

All Things Are Under His Authority

The opening chapter of Colossians gives one of the clearest descriptions of Christ's supremacy:

“For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible.”
— Colossians 1:16 (KJV)

Then Scripture says:

“And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.”
— Colossians 1:17 (KJV)

This is the foundation of the Christ Above message.

Christ is above all things because Scripture declares that all things were created by Him and for Him.

The King Who Will Return

Scripture also teaches that Christ will return as King.

Revelation describes heaven opened and Christ appearing as the rider on a white horse.

His name is called:

“KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”
— Revelation 19:16 (KJV)

The title leaves no ambiguity.

Christ is King above every earthly ruler.

His authority does not depend upon human recognition.

The Shadow King

The phrase “Shadow King” is a creative representation of a biblical truth: Christ is King even though His physical presence is not currently visible to the world.

Jesus told His disciples:

“I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.”
— John 14:18 (KJV)

He also promised:

“I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.”
— Matthew 28:20 (KJV)

Christ may not be physically seen sitting upon an earthly throne today, but Scripture teaches that His authority remains.

His Word Is the Standard

If Christ is King, then His Word matters.

Jesus said:

“If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
— John 14:15 (KJV)

Following Christ means more than identifying ourselves as Christians.

It means listening to Him.

It means trusting His Word.

It means allowing His teachings to shape how we live.

One Day Every Knee Will Bow

The Bible points toward a future when Christ's authority will be universally acknowledged.

Philippians 2:10–11 says:

“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow... And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.”

Human beings may choose whether they acknowledge Christ today.

But Scripture declares that His ultimate authority will not remain hidden forever.

Until the King Speaks Again

The message of The Shadow King is therefore simple:

Christ is King.

He is Lord.

He created all things.

He sustains all things.

His Word remains true.

And He will return.

Until that day, believers are called to remain faithful and rooted in His Word.

“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.”
— Titus 2:13 (KJV)

Until the King speaks again... remain rooted in His Word.

Christ Above. All Things. Always.
